Julian Howle, 70, of Mayfield gets free health screenings every chance he gets. His diligence likely saved his life last December. Howle had a free carotid artery screening at Western Baptist. It revealed a greater than 90 percent narrowing of his carotid arteries, so he was taken immediately to the emergency room. There, a Doppler study confirmed the screening results, and Howle was scheduled for an urgent carotid endarderectomy.
