Patients at Western Baptist Warm Up to New Gowns

gownsDislike those drafty surgical gowns? Western Baptist Hospital is one of the first facilities in the area to offer a new alternative to patients undergoing surgery—the Bair Paws patient-adjustable warming system.

The Bair Paws system features a gown through which air flows. Using a hand-held controller, patients adjust the temperature of the airflow to a comfortable level. The soft, single-use gown wraps completely around the body and ties at the side to fully cover the patient.

Unlike traditional patient gowns, which can gap in the back, Bair Paws gowns provide full coverage to protect patient modesty. And each Bair Paws gown a patient receives is fresh and new. The air flowing through the system’s small warming unit also reduces the need for piles of warmed cotton blankets that nurses often must repeatedly apply to patients.

“We were eager to adopt this new technology right away,” says Ted Henderson, Director of Surgery at Western Baptist Hospital. “Our patients’ satisfaction is very important to us, and the comfort afforded patients by this new system really shows how much we care.”
