Cardiac Rehab Program at Western Baptist Awarded Certification

Cardiac rehabilitation at Western.Cardiac rehabilitation can be lifesaving. Research credits cardiac rehab with improving exercise capacity, allowing people to climb stairs and carry groceries again, and enhancing a sense of well-being.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Western Baptist Hospital recently has been awarded Certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Certification recognizes those programs rigorously reviewed by a national board and found to meet the outlined essential requirements for standards of care.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness; reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse; control cardiac symptoms; stabilize and/or improve the patient’s condition; and enhance the patient’s quality of life.

According to Annie McGregor, Coordinator of Cardiology at Western Baptist, the hospital’s cardiac rehab program also goes a step further, fostering supportive relationships between patients and staff.

“Our rehab patients and staff grow into a family,” says McGregor. “We encourage one another, support one another, and care for one another while we all work toward a common goal of improving health and wellness.”
