Expecting parents Todd and Bridgette Porter haven’t yet decided on a first name for their daughter. But they have decided on where to have her—the Birthing Center at Western Baptist Hospital. The Marion, Kentucky, couple said that after attending a recent Maternally Yours program, there were no doubts as to where to welcome their precious bundle later this fall.
“One evening at the hospital and we were convinced,” says Bridgette. “The staff welcomed us, talked with us one-onone, and showed a genuine concern for our personal birthing experience. Our baby is so special to us and, likewise, we want a special experience when it’s time to welcome her into our lives.”
The Porters are among the many who have started their journey to parenthood with Western Baptist Hospital’s Maternally Yours program. Since its beginning three years ago, nearly a thousand couples have attended the bimonthly dinner program, learning more about Western Baptist Hospital’s maternal child services and classes.
The Maternally Yours dinner program is one facet of the Maternally Yours pregnancy program for expecting families. This pre- and post-maternal care program covers all the basics of pregnancy, and includes the following:
- A free copy of What to Expect When You’re Expecting
- Free membership to Baptist Family Fitness during pregnancy and for six weeks following the child’s birth
- A Maternally Yours coupon booklet filled with discounts from area merchants
- Access to Baby Steps, Western Baptist’s online pregnancy center
For the Porters, the entire program has meant peace of mind, helpful advice, and a friend to turn to during a time of many questions and great expectations. “The resources provided to us through Western Baptist’s Maternally Yours program are invaluable,” says Todd. “As a new family, we’re more prepared, more confident, and more excited about the journey that lies ahead.”

DON’T PUT KITCHEN SAFETY ON THE BACK BURNER
Toddlers have a natural curiosity but lack a sense of danger, which can be a recipe for disaster. Each year, many children get burned because they reach up and pull a hot pot off the stove or spill a container of hot water on themselves. To keep kids safe, use the back burner, and turn pots on stoves so the handles face the wall. Also, tuck away dangling cords on coffee pots and other heating appliances.
