Here’s some good news for dark-chocolate lovers: Like apples, onions, green tea, and red wine, dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids. These substances may help prevent hardening of the arteries and reduce the risk for blood clots. But chocolate also is high in fat. So, enjoy it only sparingly.

Only people who have a rare disease called phenylketonuria should avoid aspartame. For all others—including people with diabetes and those trying to lose weight—products sweetened with aspartame instead of sugar can be part of a healthful diet.
