Baptist Health Line lends ear to industries with new hotline
Paducah’s river industry and other area occupational health and wellness organizations now have a new partner in health with the addition of Western Baptist’s new medical hotline. The number is provided to new businesses who sign up for the new program.
When a worker phones the hotline, a Baptist Health Line nurse will answer their health question.
Laurie Latham, director of Business Development, said the hotline was established to further expand the hospital’s mission of care to the community, including the area’s workforce.
“As the region’s healthcare leader, it’s our obligation and our privilege to provide everyone with resources they need for their health,” said Latham. “Establishing this hotline specifically oriented to occupational health and safety industries is an important part of recognizing the community’s needs and striving to fulfill them.”
Latham said the hotline also will benefit the hospital’s BaptistWorx program, which offers case management services, health and safety programs, medical screenings and treatments for worker injuries and illness.
Recently, staff from the department toured Ingram Barge Co. to learn more about the workers’ environment and better prepare for questions and concerns they may face regarding their health.
Beth Taylor, R.N., was among those touring. “Safety is one of the company’s main priorities,” said Taylor. “Heat exhaustion is a concern in the summer, but the staff seem well versed in first aid and basic medical care. We’re happy to assist when needed, and we now have a better understanding of their unique needs.”
