The latest WBH HEROES
Emergency department’s Lisa Turley was in Wal-Mart recently when she heard an overhead page, asking for a physician or nurse. Turley performed CPR on an unconscious man until an ambulance and additional medical help arrived.
Materials Management’s Tom Thompson aided a coworker, Diane Harris, involved in a wreck during icy conditions on her early commute to work. Harris’ vehicle skidded off the roadway into a ditch. Thompson witnessed the accident and stopped to help her out of her car. He waited with her until a sheriff and wrecker arrived and then drove her home.
Surgery’s Joey Johnston heard a loud noise outside his home in the very early morning hours. It was storming, but Johnston went outside to investigate and finally found a truck off the road and overturned in a deep ditch. The driver had broken his leg and could not climb up the hill to seek assistance. Johnston called 911 and remained with the man until help arrived.
ICU’s Stacey Brooks was getting ready for bed recently when she smelled smoke. She and her son went outside and saw a house burning about two blocks away. Brooks ran toward the home yelling “Fire! Call 911!” in the hopes of getting neighbors’ attention. When she and her son arrived at the house, they began beating on the doors to awake the people inside. The houses in the neighborhood are very close together. The next-door neighbors came running out and indicated to Brooks that someone was in the back of the house. With her son’s assistance, Brooks was able to assist a disabled, elderly woman out of the home and to safety. Additionally, Brooks’ quick thinking enabled the fire department to arrive promptly, saving the second house and others in the neighborhood from burning.
