Hundreds Attend Children's Fair
From cholesterol screenings to safety information, Western Baptist Hospital recently hosted Everything Under The Sun, a pediatric health fair for children and their parents or caregivers. More than 300 individuals attended the first-ever event, with organizers hopeful for growth in the future. Director of Rehab Services Michael Muscarella says the event afforded community members an excellent opportunity for health education.
“Everything Under the Sun is an excellent tool for parents to help them understand their children's health,” said Muscarella. “The parents are being equipped during these opportunities to promote the best in their children.”
Free health screenings including cholesterol and blood sugar, blood pressure, EKG rhythm strip testing, flexibility, body mass index and more were offered. In addition, a pediatric screening was offered to children ages 0-5. Therapists from Baptist Rehab Center, along with Dr. Jeffrey Mudd of The Pediatric Group of Paducah, assessed children’s hearing, speech and developmental skills.
“The Pediatric Screening allows children to be assessed in more detail and allows the parent to meet with therapists and physicians who can help guide them into any further care the child may need,” explained Muscarella.
Booths featuring hospital services, vendors from the community, door prizes and great giveaways completed this fun-filled summer day. More than 60 Western Baptist employees donated their time to help make Everything Under The Sun a success.
