Training and research advance cardiac care
Featured on one of Western Baptist’s weekly HealthBreak segments this month, cardiologist J. Kenneth Ford, M.D., explains how Western Baptist physicians train doctors regionally, including those from centers as far away as Louisville, St. Louis and Nashville.
Ford recently trained regional cardiologists in PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) closure, or “hole in the heart,” procedures.
“Often, people think that if they go to larger cities like Nashville, they will receive care from a more experienced or better trained physician,” said Ford, “but that’s not always the case. Many times, Baptist’s own physicians are, in fact, training doctors at larger facilities.”
Along with teaching cardiac procedures, physicians at Western Baptist participate in clinical trials and research to further expand its cardiac program.
For more information, watch Ford’s HealthBreak at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, and again on Wednesday morning, Dec. 20.
