Born To Read
In an effort to increase literacy rates and promote good reading habits, the McCracken County Public Library has partnered with the Rotary Club of Paducah in implementing a Newborn Literacy Program at both local hospitals. According to Library Director Marie Liang, the program will begin this month and conclude next October.
As part of the program, each newborn and his or her parents will receive a literacy incentive gift package including a Read To Me bag, a baby board book, library applications and information, a bookmark, and a “Born To Read” sippy cup.
“Current research on early literacy and brain development indicates that it is never too early to prepare children for success as readers,” said Liang. “We appreciate the Rotary Club of Paducah joining us in this important endeavor.”
The Newborn Literacy Program will officially kickoff during Children’s Book Week, November 14-20th.
