Understanding Medicare and Medicaid Coverage

Medicare pays for room/board, nursing and therapy services, lab and some diagnostic tests associated with the Transitional Care Unit for the first 20 days if the criteria for skilled care is met. From day 21-100, Medicare pays all but 20% per day. After 100 days, Medicare does not reimburse for skilled care. Some Medicare supplements cover the deductible after day 20.

Items and services provided at no additional charge to the patient include nursing services, recreational activities and ancillary services.

For questions about the Medicare program, contact the social security office in Paducah at (270) 443-7506 or 1-800-772-1213. Our social worker will be happy to assist you. Information about the Medicare program is also available on the Health Care Financing Administration web site.

In some cases, TCU patients may qualify for Medicaid benefits. To apply for Medicaid, contact the Medicaid Office, Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, at (270) 444-8050. Our social worker will assist you with the application for Medicaid benefits. Please note, however, that Medicaid does not cover any of the services provided on the Transitional Care Unit.
