Western Baptist expands hospitalist program

Afenya Ahiabuike Alwarappan Puertollano
Western Baptist Hospital welcomes four new hospitalists to the medical staff of 240 physicians, representing 40 specialties:
Kenneth Afenya, M.D., studied medicine in Ghana and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brooklyn Medical Center in New York.
Smithson Ahiabuike, M.D., studied medicine in Nigeria before completing residency in internal medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He has practiced in Tennessee, Michigan and West Virginia.
Ramesh Alwarappan, M.D., studied medicine in India and completed his residency in internal medicine at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York.
Glenn Puertollano, M.D., studied medicine in the Philippines before completing residency in internal medicine at Columbia University’s Harlem Hospital in New York.
They join Hospitalists of Paducah, a team of hospitalists at Western Baptist, who care for hospitalized patients whose physicians are not on the hospital staff. After those patients leave the hospital, the hospitalist returns their care to their primary care physician.
Western Baptist started the hospitalist program earlier this year with Ryan Frazine, M.D., medical director; Scott Wilson, M.D., and Masoud Kalantar, M.D.
