Literacy program benefits Western Baptist Foundation

Western Baptist chief medical officer Patrick Withrow, M.D., reads to a Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary School class on Thursday. James Marine Inc. gave each first-grader a book from Kohl’s Department Store.
Guests representing Western Baptist Hospital Foundation read “Clifford” stories today to Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary School first graders, and James Marine Inc. gave each student a book.
The books came from Kohl’s Department Store, which donates 100 percent of the net profit from sales of its $5 books and plush toys to children’s health and educational opportunities through the hospital foundation.
Readers included Patrick Withrow, M.D., Western Baptist chief medical officer; Don Walker, foundation board chairman; Rodney Hall, Kohl’s manager; Ronnie James, James Marine president and CEO; and Sarah McGee, James Marine chief counsel.
Since 2000, Kohl’s stores have turned $5 merchandise into more than $150 million to help make a positive difference in the lives of children.
The hospital foundation raises funds to purchase medical equipment, enhance hospital facilities and expand patient services, such as the recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
