The Fraternal Order of Eagles has donated $6,000 to the Baptist Health Foundation Paducah Your Fight Cancer Fund, which provides assistance to local cancer patients.

The Grand Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles donated $5,000, while local Aerie Chapter 3135 contributed $1,000. The local donation was in memory of members who died of cancer.

“Our motto is people helping people,” said Richard Thompson, area secretary and past state president. He said the local chapter donates more than $20,000 a year to charity.

The money will be used to purchase lockers and curtains for the radiation oncology patient waiting areas at Baptist Health Paducah.

Radiation oncologist Peter Locken, M.D., said the Your Fight was established by employees to help meet the personal needs of patients. Improvements to the waiting areas will help accomplish that purpose.
