Baptist Express clinic opens in Walmart on Irvin Cobb Drive

Baptist Express Care, affiliated with Western Baptist Hospital, opened The Clinic at Walmart today in the Walmart SuperCenter on Irvin Cobb Drive.

The convenient, patient-focused clinic provides fast, affordable access to basic healthcare services, such as check-ups, vaccinations, screenings and minor injuries, for people over 2 years old.

It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays; 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis without appointments. Prices are posted so patients know the cost before treatment; and cash, credit cards and most major insurance plans are accepted.

“By joining with Walmart to operate Baptist Express Care, Western Baptist takes another step to ensure the health and wellness of our community,” said Patrick Withrow, M.D., Western Baptist vice president and chief medical officer. “Our clinic is staffed with licensed healthcare providers, even on nights and weekends, so families can receive quality care without a long wait. It also helps ease the burden on our emergency department, which is designed for trauma and emergency care.”

A nurse practitioner treats common health ailments, such as sore throats, sinus infections, upper respiratory infections, earaches, bladder infections, insect bites and stings, as well as providing blood sugar testing and routine physicals.

While Baptist Express Care is designed to provide basic healthcare services, patients will have access to Western Baptist Hospital for diagnostic services, physicians or hospital care when needed.

Baptist Healthcare System has embarked on a statewide initiative to offer clinics in Walmart stores throughout Kentucky. The first Walmart clinic in the state opened in November 2009 in the Hamburg Walmart in Lexington.

Western Baptist Hospital’s mission is to exemplify its Christian heritage of providing quality healthcare services by enhancing the health of the people and communities it serves. The hospital already operates a clinic at the Walmart on Hinkleville Road and is looking forward to bringing basic healthcare services to people who shop for everyday needs at the Irvin Cobb Drive store.

With the opening of this clinic, there will be more than 100 in-store clinics in Walmart stores throughout the country. For further information about “The Clinic at Walmart,” please visit www.walmart.com/clinics.
